Occasionally people write about me in magazines. I have been known to reread these passages up to 30 times a day. Here's a few I thought were nice.
What sets Birbiglia apart is an earnest likeability, not only in his stage persona, but also in his writing. He has the rare gift for being clever while never being "slick", and remains true to who he is offstage, taking how he sees the world, relationships and even his fear of bears to make winning sets. It's quite impressive how he covers such a wide range of today's topics while still working totally "clean", providing a set that is juicy for adults, yet family friendly enough to make him perfect for a sitcom.
~Amelia Davis, Backstage Magazine
"One of the truly distinct and incredibly popular voices of New York comedy, Mike Birbiglia has already won enormous acclaim with such icons as David Letterman and the Montreal Comedy Festival. Equally gifted as a writer and a performer, Mike is an emerging superstar."
~Comedy Central
"Brooklynite Mike Birbiglia bolstered the reputation of the Borough of Kings, scoring big with a disarming preppy facade that concealed a mischievously irreverent wit. His childlike innocence cleverly heightens the absurdity of such comic riffs as his take on L.A. gang signs (holding a palm and a peace sign against his chest in a homeboy stance, he proudly declares, 'I'm in Paper-Scissors.')"
